Opens Nov 27 usual opening — confirm for 2026
Usually opens the Friday after Thanksgiving (Nov 27) — the farm hasn’t posted its 2026 dates yet, so confirm before you drive.
Tammen is the south side's answer to the long drive north — 160 acres of Christmas trees on Essex Road outside Wilmington, planted since 1956 and still worked by the same family. It's one of the largest choose-and-cut farms in Illinois, and the scale shows in the size range: Scotch and white pine grow to about fifteen feet, Douglas fir to ten, Fraser to nine, Canaan to eight.
The same ground grows 50 acres of blueberries the rest of the year, which is where the second half of the name comes from. Tree season opens the day after Thanksgiving and runs seven days a week, 8 to 4:30 — no ticketed attractions, just a lot of trees and room to walk. This season's dates aren't posted yet, so call before you load everyone in the car.
