Pinestead sits on Highway 65 north of the Cities at Isanti, and it's built for families who make a whole day of it. Fraser and balsam fir, blue spruce, Black Hills spruce and white pine grow in the choose-and-cut fields, and a lighted lot behind the kiosk holds fresh-cut trees brought over from a second farm five miles away — that's how they can put out twelve-footers. A greeter meets you at the kiosk with a saw, a map and an opinion about which fir smells strongest and which one holds its needles.
Santa comes five days — Thanksgiving Friday, Saturday and Sunday, then the Saturday and Sunday after — 11 to 2 each time. There's a campfire and a food truck on the big weekends, cider and cookies in the gift shop on quiet weekdays, a model train layout inside, and leashed dogs are welcome the length of the fields. Shaking, baling, drilling for a spiked stand and tying down are all part of the price.

- Open 9–5 the Saturday and Sunday before Thanksgiving, closed that Monday and Tuesday, open again Wednesday, closed Thanksgiving Day, then daily from Thanksgiving Friday. Weekdays don't start until 11.
