The Hemphill family has farmed in Redland, out past Oregon City on Redland Road, since 1912. The wholesale side started in 1984; the cut-and-carry fields families know opened in 2018, and Jacob and Chelsea Hemphill run it now with three kids coming up behind them.
Noble, grand and Douglas fir grow in the rows, priced by the foot, with unsheared natural nobles for anyone who likes a wilder tree and pre-cut ones up front for anyone who'd rather not carry a saw. They hand out saws, twine and carts, then haul, shake, bale and load the tree for you. A Christmas train runs for the kids, there are wagon rides and warming fires, hot chocolate and coffee are on the house, and Santa comes the first two weekends. Cards cost three dollars more than cash.
