Usually opens the Friday after Thanksgiving (Nov 27) — the farm hasn’t posted its 2026 dates yet, so confirm before you drive.
Stowell's is a 321-acre hill farm in Brookfield with more than fifty acres of it in Christmas trees, and it has been running choose-and-cut since 1972. Getting there is part of it — country roads, then a drive out through the fields to find your tree. Balsam, Fraser and Canaan fir grow here, shaped loose rather than clipped tight so there's room between the branches for ornaments.
Pick a tree and they'll cut it, package it and help you load it; if you'd rather not walk the rows, there are pre-cut trees taken fresh out of the blocks that day at a lower price. The Christmas barn is where families end up afterward — a wood furnace to thaw out beside, a live electric train layout, antique farm equipment, wreaths decorated and plain, Vermont maple syrup, and a bake sale run by a local non-profit selling food and hot drinks.

- Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays between Thanksgiving and Christmas, 9–4. They cut and package the tree and help you get it on the car.

- Not at the farm — getting rid of a tree is a city service, and the rules change at the city line. We haven't read a Vermont city's collection page yet. The list linked just above is every city we do have, and each page is that city's own words on the three ways a tree leaves the house: curbside pickup, a drop-off site, or a program that chips it.
- Where can I recycle a Christmas tree?
- Wherever your own city takes them — it is a city service, so the answer changes at the city line. 40 of the 56 cities on the list linked just above say on their own pages what becomes of a collected tree; the rest describe the collection and stop there, and so do we.
- Who handles Christmas tree removal once the season is over?
- The city, or the county authority that runs collection for it — that is the body every page in that January list is read from, and the only one that can tell you when it is running. Private haulers will take a tree away as well; they are not on this site, because we only write down what a city puts in writing itself.
