Enchanted Valley Acres
Cross Plains, Wisconsin · Dane County
Opens Nov 21
Opens November 21.
Twenty minutes west of Madison, this valley fills with families from the weekend before Thanksgiving. Fraser, balsam and Canaan fir and white pine grow on two pieces of ground — the valley floor and the hill — and which one you cut from depends on which trees are ready that year. Saws, tarps, carts, shaking and baling all come with the tree, and nobody pays to walk in the gate.
Trees run from table-top to twelve feet and past it, with a pre-cut selection for anyone who'd rather skip the saw. Wreaths, garland, door swags and porch pots come out of the shop. The wagon ride is for hauling trees down off the hill rather than a ride for its own sake, and the activity area is only open to people buying a tree — this is the quiet winter version of the farm, not the fall one.
