Half an hour north of Green Bay, Whispering Pines is the northeastern Wisconsin trip families make a whole day of. Balsam and Fraser fir, spruce and white pine grow at the Airport Road farm in Oconto, and a second lot on Libal Street in De Pere sells pre-cut trees for anyone who wants one closer to town.
The farm end is built for kids: a train-themed tractor and wagon out to the fields with a hand saw, Santa's workshop for photos, life-size singing reindeer, and hot cocoa waiting when you walk back in. Pre-cut trees run from table-top to twenty feet, shaking and baling are done for you, and the holiday shop carries wreaths, garland, kissing balls and ornaments. Weekends bring food and the biggest crowds — and, some years, the Highland cows.
